Hi, I'm David
I grew up in a poor family with five siblings. My parents were uneducated and I learned quickly that having parents that work non-stop just to make ends meet can lead to a lot of stress in a family. My family never took vacations, everything we owned was used, and the smallest financial mishap could cause us to go into debt. My father went to a trade school and was able to get a job in heating and cooling. Our family was doing better with a small amount of breathing room. Then matters got worse my parents would be getting a divorce because of disagreements and troubles. This lead them both back to poverty. My mother swallowed her pride and was able to raise us from a combination of assistance from the government, child support, and our church.
Financial problems were a large source of tension in my home my whole childhood and I was determined not to allow that to be my future. I was determined to attend college to ensure that I would have better earning power. I was able to pay for tuition with financial aid and working at a grocery store. I was nervous that I wouldn’t stick with college so I attended summer courses so I wouldn’t get out of the habit. I was also nervous that I wouldn’t be able afford college so I didn’t pay rent. I lived in my car, I slept on couches, I slept outdoors, and slept at some friends homes from time to time.
I went to college for a degree in accounting because I wanted to learn about managing money. I also wanted to get a degree that would produce a financially stable future. After I completed two years at my local college I moved from Texas. In my longest trip from home I went to college at BYU – Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho. I worked at Liberty Tax Preparation, took accounting, finance, entrepreneurship, and web design courses.
I have worked at Wells Fargo as a Credit Analyst, I worked for a small CPA firm, and now I work for Ernst & Young as an Auditor. I want to help people avoid financial problems and take advantage of financial opportunities. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have. I can only offer my opinion and hope to be with you as we take our journey.
